The Director of Community Engagement will coordinate service-learning programs, service related projects and be responsible for expanding and enhancing service-learning initiatives at UMass Boston for students, faculty, staff and community organizations. The Director will also coordinate the activities of the campus wide Service Learning Advisory Committee, the Beacon Student Leadership Development Program, the Office of Urban Programs, and the UMass Boston Jumpstart Coordinator to ensure that a unified system for college involvement in community outreach and service-learning is maintained through the development of a center for networking and program development. S/he will: plan, coordinate and direct the Office of Student Leadership and Community Engagement to meet its goals and objectives; manage operating budget; collaborate with Academic Affairs to engage in faculty outreach and support toward the utilization of a service learning pedagogy and in the areas of curriculum and professional development; work with faculty in the recruitment, placement and support of student service learners; and represent UMass Boston at local and national service-learning organizations.

Masters degree in Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, Human/Social Services Administration or related area. Three to five years experience in public/community service-learning programming, student leadership development or related experience, especially on a college or university campus. Demonstrated commitment to promotion of service learning, community service, student leadership development and volunteerism. Ability to relate to a diversity of constituents including: community, faculty, college administrators and students. Administrative, management and community relations skills. Superb communication skills including speaking, writing and listening. Prior fundraising experience and proposal development a plus. Ability to analyze, problem solve, and be flexible in service delivery.
