Civic Engagement and Public Education Postion Available in DC    

The District of Columbia Education Compact (DCEC) is seeking to hire a Director of Civic Engagment and Programs. The position is located in Washington, DC. Duties inlcude leading and cultivating a civic culture in the District of Columbia, and expanding civic capacities to address issues related to improving student achievement in the District of Columbia Public Schools. Position Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Provides leadership and direction within and across sector groups around school reform issues, esp. those linked to improving student achievement.
2. Provide facilitation and administrative support to sector groups and/or issue groups as required
3. Coordinate the work of the sector groups on a project basis with appropriate contacts at DCPS
4. Lead evaluation selection and management and oversee implementation for program activities and investments
5. Work closely with public education advocacy community providing leadership and resources as required.
6. Supervise the sector interns.
7. Develop and provide regular oversight to DCEC communication tools, e.g. website, newsletter, etc.
8. Develop and manage key events and media relations which support the development of the DC Education Compact
9. Develop and expand partnership opportunities within DC/Region�s various sectors
10. Research �best� practices research; conduct research on latest trends and issues affecting public education
11. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Position Requirements
Work Experience
1. Well-rounded individual with a high level of professional maturity and the ability to work with diverse teams
2. Strong analytical and interpersonal skills and in-depth experience in communications and civic engagement strategies
3. Excellent verbal and written skills required sufficient – to prepare proposals, speeches, presentations, and write position papers.
4. Ability to organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple work activities in a fast paced team environment to meet critical deadlines and ensure high quality work products
5. Experience in program or project management in the education and/or human development fields.
6. MS Office products proficiency required. Knowledge of database programs

Education
College/Graduate degree, preferably in education, social sciences or communications or related field and 5-7 years of experience in non-profit management in education, social services, or communications and outreach or equivalent combination of education and experience to provide the necessary skills and abilities

1. Must demonstrate high level of engagement skills, judgment, and confidentiality;
2. Strong project management skills;
3. Well-rounded individual with a high level of professional maturity and the ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple projects and responsibilities on a continuous basis;
4. Ability to work with little supervision;
5. Must be able to set priorities and follow projects to completion while coordinating with a variety of parties;
6. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment;
7. Exceptional organizational skills and analytical skills;
8. Strong oral and written communication skills; and
9. Microsoft Office PC skills

Competencies
1. Change Agent. Ability to be flexible and resourceful and possess a high level of personal initiative.
2. Team Player. Strong self starter, who is also an effective team player with great consensus building skills.
3. Relationship Manager. Recognizes the importance of client relationships and customer service.

Working Conditions
General office environment
Must be available to work a demanding schedule (including evenings and weekends)

Compensation
Salary range: $90,000 � 110,000 per annum
