SSRN Creates Political Science Network
The Social Science Research Network (SSRN) has just announced the creation of the Political Science Network (PSN). PSN will provide a world-wide, online community for research in all areas of Political Science, following the model of the other subject matter networks within SSRN (http://www.ssrn.com). SSRN is an on-line research network, composed of a number of subject-area networks in the social sciences, law, and business. Each network is divided into specific topics (”eJournals”). Authors upload papers (without charge) and select the topics that are most appropriate for their papers. Users worldwide can then download these papers (also without charge). SSRN authors find that posting on SSRN dramatically increases both the exposure and downloads of their papers, especially from interdisciplinary and international readers.
All abstracts and papers, together with bibliographic data and author contact information, will be included in the searchable SSRN electronic library at http://papers.ssrn.com. The SSRN eLibrary contains more than158,000 papers by 80,000 authors, including 125,000 full text papers. Downloads from the SSRN eLibrary are running at an annual rate of about 4 million, with over 15 million downloads since SSRN was founded in 1994.
SSRN’s editors (leading scholars from around the world) review the topic selections, and supervise the preparation of email abstracting journals (eJournals), each of which contains 4-8 abstracts of papers, including the title, authors, and a link to the full-text paper. Individual subscriptions to the PSN eJournals will be free during the start-up phase through the end of 2007. After that, individual subscriptions, covering all PSN journals will be $35/year; institutional site licenses will also be available at much lower rates. The abstracting journals offer a convenient way to keep up with research in each field.
Authors retain full copyright to their working papers posted on PSN and can remove a paper at any time. SSRN takes only a non-exclusive license to distribute the working paper. Posting a paper on PSN does not constitute publication and should not interfere with submission to print journals. If and when the paper is published in a print journal, authors may leave the working paper on PSN unless your copyright agreement with the publisher requires you to remove it.
PSN will initially consist of 25 abstracting eJournals. You can view the eJournal structure for each network by going to
http://SSRN.com/Browse, then use the “+” buttons to expand the Political Science Network. A list of journals and editors is at the end of this message.
How do I subscribe at no cost through Dec. 31, 2007?
If you are already registered with SSRN, click on one or more of the subscribe links below. On the Welcome page enter your SSRN log in information (your SSRN User ID and your Password) and you will automatically be subscribed to the corresponding journal(s).
If you are not currently registered with SSRN, you will be asked to register at no cost when you click on one of the Subscribe links below. You will have to provide your email address (which will be your SSRN User ID). The SSRN system will then send a password to that email address. You must retrieve that password and submit it on the browser screen to log in to the SSRN system. You will then be automatically subscribed to the eJournal(s) you requested. If you do not get
subscribed immediately (perhaps because your login session expired) please click on the subscribe link again and you will be asked to log in (you can use the remember me function on the log in page), and then you will be subscribed.
