Integrating Dialogue with Action

How can dialogue groups be more effective at taking action in their communities? Sandy Heierbacher decided to explore this important question for her Master?’s thesis for the School for International Training. She interviewed leaders of dialogue programs, examined materials in the related fields of conflict resolution, community building, and social change, and conducted an in-depth study of existing dialogue materials and resources. She found that there are nine broad strategies that are useful in organizing dialogues which have a greater capacity for inciting community change. The October 2000 thesis is condensed and sectionalized in the Integrate Dialogue With Action section. Download the MS Word Version (259k).

The Dialogue Guide

The Dialogue Guide was one of the products of Sandy Heierbacher's 1998-1999 Fellowship with the Corporation for National Service. Although it was written for National Service Programs and focuses on race dialogue, any group interested in organizing a dialogue program will find material of interest in these pages.

Most of what is found in this document can also be found in the Organize a Dialogue section of this site. Download the MSWord Version (120k) or the PDF Version (64k).
