I am Mike Jamison. I work at a refinery in Convent, LA. My current assignment is Causal Reasoning and Learning Practitioner. It is a great title. I use logic based reasoning to investigate causes of things that break, blow-up, catch on fire or just don't work. I am a student of Bohem, Issics and Senge. I am trying to apply dialogue to the more structured logic processes we use in investigations.

Wow, Mike... sounds very interesting to me, as i too am interested in the interplay between dialogue and logic... my friend Jeff Conklin practices something called "Dialogue Mapping".... http://www.cognexus.org....
it allows him to invite people to participate in a very open-ended conversation about practical issues, while he is using his software to create a "logical map" everyone's contributions...

it's always fascinating to me how a non-linear process, can lead to a very highly organized result... in a way it's similar to what Edward deBono said about creativity... you make a very non-linear jump (he called them Po's) but then in hind-sight, you can always create a very logical connection back from where you ended up, to where you started from...

anyway, the work i do with Dynamic Facilitation ..http://www.tobe.net... is similar in many ways to Dialogue Mapping, only without the fancy software (though i am learning to use that, as well...)

do let me know more about your own experiences with the interplay between logic and dialogue...

with all best wishes,

Rosa

Rosa,
Thanks for the reply. I have taken a new assignment relating to Performance Coaching for all employees at Motiva LLC Convent Refinery. I will have several opportunities in the next 2 years to experiment with my theories and test my assumptions. I am excited about getting deeper into this type of work.

Mike
