I have been a member of NCDD since the first conference in Arlington VA, and although I am not always current with issues and can only respond on a limited basis I thought it might make sense to introduce myself. I teach graduate courses in education - primarily in Critical Pedagogy, Generative (Bohmian) Dialogue and consult to organizations on organizational learning, diversity, and programs that address white privilege.

I make a distinction between generative dialogue and all other forms of dialogue. The differences are primarily associated with intention and the behavior that results in the search for wisdom as a primary goal.

Thanks for the succinct stating of your views of dialogue and for posting here. Do you believe that informal dialogue, perhaps as this space will be, is generative? I do.

I did masters and doctoral work online for several years and one thing I liked was the quality of community that arose from this kind of check in place within our conferences. So, I see this form of dialogue as a form of community wisdom.

And that the effort towards deciding which conference or topic to post in, is also a community practice.

Right now, I post here simply to share that I am trying to wrap my mind and feelings around all the energy emerging over the terrorists threats Bush and Co. seem to think will happen, especially at election time.

I have faith that all of this will somehow work out; that democracy and dialogue can help us all survive and thrive.

i was interested in what you wrote, and, i am wondering...

it seems that you are saying, that there is a kind of wisdom that results only from examining our assumptions...

it seems that in Critical Pedagogy, we also end up examining our assumptions...

what do you see as the significant differences between those two forms of dialogue?

(part of the reason i'm asking, is because my own background has been informed by critical pedagogy as well...)
