The “dialogue and deliberation community” is a community of practitioners, organizations, researchers, public officials, activists, artists, students, and others dedicated to solving problems through honest talk, quality thinking and collaborative action. NCDD provides the infrastructure needed in this community so we can work together to increase both our individual and our collective impact.

Is there a membership fee?
Organizations can join NCDD for only $100 a year. Individuals are asked to pay a $50 annual fee if they are able to. NCDD welcomes all who are committed to dialogue and deliberation to join us, whether or not you are able to pay the full (or any) membership fee.
We especially encourage young people, those from developing countries, and those with lower incomes to take advantage of the opportunity to become a member for free or by paying what you can. Members who do not pay the full fee will be listed and treated as other members, but we will not be able to provide you with the benefits that cost us or others money (like discounted fees for events).
What are the benefits of NCDD membership?
- Opportunities to work with your colleagues to strengthen and unite the D&D community.
- Opportunities to network with your peers and develop mutually supportive relationships.
- Increased awareness of opportunities, events and resources that can help you be more effective.
- Becoming part of a dynamic network of great people and groups that can be accessed to share resources, get input on ideas, publicize events, obtain advice from seasoned colleagues, and more.
- Increased recognition and exposure within the D&D community. Members are listed on the NCDD website – the online hub for the dialogue and deliberation community - and have many opportunities to post information about your resources and events, news about your programs, and commentaries about your experiences.
- The opportunity to serve as a mentor to someone who is new to the field – or to be paired with a mentor who can help advise and prepare you for working successfully in this field.
- Also, every NCDD member now gets their own space in the new NCDD Members Network – an interactive members directory that allows you to easily connect with other members, form and join interest groups, upload news about your work to your own blog, upload photos from your projects, and more!
What additional benefits do fully paid NCDD members receive?
- Paid members are also eligible for all of the discounts our partners are offering on their trainings, courses, and certificate programs (listed at www.thataway.org/discounts). These are some of the best trainings out there in facilitation, public engagement and conflict resolution. Our organizational members can send up to three people to these programs at the discounted rate.
- Organizational members can have up to three people listed in NCDD’s Members Network.
- Paid members will also receive discounts off of registration fees for NCDD’s conferences.
- But the most important benefit of becoming a paid member is knowing that you are helping to ensure that NCDD can continue to foster collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and networking throughout the dialogue and deliberation community!
Can organizations or individuals from outside of the U.S. join the coalition?
Yes! We’re proud of the fact that as of September 2007, NCDD members hail from 34 countries. We have over 100 members from outside of the U.S.
People who are based outside of the U.S. are encouraged to join the Coalition. We’d love to have you! Your membership will be no different from the U.S.-based members of NCDD.
What if I’m already a member and I want to become a paid member?
If you are currently an unpaid individual member of NCDD and would like to become a paid individual or organizational member and take advantage of all the benefits available to our paid members, here’s how:
- Email NCDD’s office manager, , and let her know that you’d like to switch to paid membership status. Specify whether you are remaining an individual member ($50) or becoming an organizational member ($100). Include your full contact info in your email so she can make sure our records are up to date.
- Submit payment following the instructions at the bottom of this page.
What is expected of NCDD members?
By joining NCDD, you or your organization are pledging your commitment to fostering the effective use of dialogue and deliberation throughout society, and to strengthening and uniting the growing dialogue and deliberation community.
Whether you pay the membership fee or not, you are asked to consider what else you can contribute to NCDD. Can you keep us informed about your work and your learnings? Can you get involved in conference planning, or in another working group? Can you help keep our resources updated, or start meaningful conversations on the NCDD discussion lists?
Membership in NCDD implies collaboration. You are joining a coalition of people and organizations that, collectively, are better able to make a difference in this field of practice, and in the world.
How do I pay for membership?
New members will be given payment options after filling out the membership form. Existing members can submit payment in either of the following ways:
Send a Check for $100 (if you’d like your organization to be a member of NCDD) or $50 (if you’d like to be an individual member) made out to “NCDD” to the following address.

If you prefer to use a Credit Card (and we encourage those from outside the U.S. to do this so we can all avoid extra check charges), go to www.paypal.com and either log in or click on “Sign Up” if you don’t already have a PayPal account.
