Dear Everyone:

I apologize! While some of us just weren't looking, a few very effective planners stole Democracy.

While we know that they are not evil people, their collective actions, due to their lack of knowledge, are draining the very life from our planet, from our societies, and, indeed, from our children's possible future. They are doing the very best that they can, and they are very effective. However, those with the best intentions, if they are going a wrong direction because of flawed knowledge, are often the very last to realize their error. The problem may be compounded by the amount of effort and time that has been invested in supporting our wrong position. One of life's toughest challenges is to be willing to reverse our position on things that we have invested in. To even investigate the possibility that we have come to conclusions that are clearly wrong, is apparently beyond the scope of some people.

We can turn this trend around. Indeed, we must! When enough of us have joined in collective thought and on collective action, we will. We can, and must, design and utilize a way of deliberative thinking, planning, and action that crosses clan, party, religious, and nationality lines and boundaries. It will take us "all together, now!"

I am working with a group of colleagues to design a method with which to make the most significant and most rapid change in the decision processes that effect our future. It is called The Catalyst, and I invite you to join us.

In order to insure a livable future for all posterity, we at The Catalyst are committed to re-empowering Democracy so that its elegant possibilities prevail. A true deliberative Democracy, of the people, by the people, and for the people, will insure a secure, just, magnificent future for all of the people everywhere and for all time. Now is the time to live into the realization that we are, indeed, all one human family. Now, we realize that the Earth is so small, and so full, and has limited natural resources. No longer can there be an 'us and them.' There is only an us, and our children!

While many of us are now concerned with the apparent problems caused by the successful manipulating of Democracy on the our national stage, we often fail to recognize that the exact same processes are at play in our home communities, and the outcome is the same. The cause of problems, at both the global and local level, are traced to that of resource misallocation. We have found that where problems exist, resources are being controlled and manipulated by a powerful few, concerned not for the welfare of all of the community members, but, rather only for their own. Often, those controlling the future of a specific community are not even members of that community. We must commit to using resources equitably so that those resources do reflect the sharing of them to meet the needs of the entire community whether it is a community of ?two or more,? a family, our local community, a nation, or the world.

Community scale is our immediate focus at The Catalyst. It is the scale the most people relate to that has the backing of agreements that are supported with law. And, we feel that local community is the scale where, as Margaret Mead said, ?Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.?
