About Me: |
Denise Caruso founded the nonprofit Hybrid Vigor Institute in 2000 to study and practice collaboration in the service of new solutions for complex social and scientific problems. She recently published a trade book on risk, public policy and biotechnology, Intervention: Confronting the Real Risks of Genetic Engineering and Life on a Biotech Planet, and continues to work on projects both in academia and the private sector to improve the practice of risk analysis for science and technology-related innovations. Her current interests are focused on new methods for analyzing and mitigating the risks of global infectious disease, and on inventing new methods to connect printed text with electronic media. |

Description: |
The Hybrid Vigor Institute is an independent, not-for-profit research organization and consultancy that is dedicated to interdisciplinary and collaborative problem solving. The projects and problems that we find most interesting to pursue such as curing and preventing infectious and epidemic diseases, analyzing the risks of science and technology breakthroughs, and designing enforceable global health and environmental policies are those that have clearly overwhelmed the capabilities of any one area of expertise or field of study. Instead, we actively seek out and connect experts from a range of fields, often for the first time, so they can exchange information and/or begin to work together toward common goals. We also strive to improve the methods used to convene and conduct these kinds of boundary-crossing inquiries. |
