David Schoem is the faculty director of the Michigan Community Scholars Program and teaches in the Sociology Department at the University of Michigan. He has served as Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Education and Assistant Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, working on issues such as founding the Program on Intergroup Relations; developing learning communities; establishing a diversity requirement; and implementing the First-Year Seminar Program. Schoem teaches courses on topics of diversity, intergroup relations, higher and K-12 education, and the "American Jewish Community." Schoem is invited to speak and consult on college campuses on topics of democratic education, diversity, intergroup relations, learning communities, service-learning, and the reform of undergraduate education.
