Full Name: |
Len Krimerman |
NCDD Member Since: |
Aug. 14, 2003 |
About Me: |
Len Krimerman has taught social and political philosophy and the theory and practice of democracy since the 1960s, most often utilizing study circle and conflict resolution processes. His educational work and research extend beyond academia: he provides instruction and resources to groups involved in community-based economic development. Len helped found the Industrial Cooperative Association, the first USA technical assistance organization for worker cooperatives, and the International Institute for Self-Management, a cross-border organization of practitioners and researchers of workplace democracy. For two decades, he has coordinated and edited Grassroots Economic Organizing (GEO), a publication about economic solidarity and cooperation. In his teaching, Len makes presentations to diverse groups both within and outside of formal academic settings. The formal ones include undergraduates and graduate students of various ages and ethnicities. Outside of academia, he has served as education coordinator for several worker cooperatives, including ones connected to the New Haven Housing Authority; for the most part, these have involved low income and minority groups. In working with the International Institute for Self-Management since 1988, Len has presented to groups from sixteen different countries and many diverse backgrounds. His editorial work has involved numerous interviews with practitioners, most recently for example, Omar Freilla, Director of Green Worker Cooperatives in the Bronx, NY. |
