Please join us for our third IAP2/NCDD Northern California joint meetup:

When: Tuesday, October 13 at 6.30pm
Where: Location is not final yet. If enough people sign up, we'll find a venue near a Caltrain station either in San Jose or somewhere up the Peninsula (e.g. Sunnyvale or Palo Alto). If we're a really small group, we might consider a virtual meeting.

For more details and RSVP go here:

Please let us know soon if you'll be able to make it so we can plan accordingly.

Thanks,

Our June 17 joint IAP2/NCDD meetup went very well! We had about 16 attendees from the faciliation, public participation and dialogue & deliberation field. Good stuff!

We plan to be doing these informal get-togethers on a bi-monthly basis in varying locations around the Bay. Our next event has been preliminarily scheduled for August 19 in Berkeley, CA.

For details, please sign up for our Google group: http://groups.google.com/group/participatesf

Hope you can join us!

We're doing another meetup in the San Francisco Bay Area, this time around in partnership with the Northern California chapter of the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2).

There's significant overlap in interests, tools, and experiences, and we're hoping to broaden our local network of local public participation, collaboration, and communication focused professionals.

We hope to find an office conference room that will accommodate our two groups (if anyone has suggestions or a room to offer, please let us know) and we will confirm the location once we get closer to the date. We plan to bring in food and drinks and accept small donations to cover the cost. We expect that this event will mainly serve as a meet-and-greet between the two groups and that we can think about future opportunities for collaboration, tools-sharing, and other structured meetings.

Please join us:

Tuesday, June 17
6.30 to 9.30 pm
San Francisco, CA (venue details will be finalized as we get closer to the date)

Here’s some great news for D&Ders in California…

Common Sense California is offering $125,000 total to municipalities, school districts, and non-profits that wish to engage the public in policy decisions through their new “Citizen Engagement Grant Program.” The grants are divided into two levels and will be awarded in two timeframes. CSC is offering four “Common Sense Grants” up to $25,000.00 each for use in developing campaigns that involve the public around issues pertaining to city/regional and/or K12 policy. Applications for these grants will be received through September 12, 2008, with recipients notified in early October. “Catalyst Grants” in amounts up to $7,500.00 will be awarded on a rolling basis, beginning in late June.

Go to our main page blog ( www.thataway.org ) for the full press release, or just visit www.commonsenseca.org

As mentioned in my earlier comment from a couple of months ago, I'd like to set up a local get-together of Bay Area D&D folks.

Here's what I'm thinking:

Date: Saturday, January 29th (afternoon-ish, details tbd)
Location: Palo Alto (venue tbd)
Agenda: informal, no set program

Anyone interested, let me know. If you can think of a better time, date or location, feel free to suggest.

Thanks,
Tim

Hi all, I thought our California members might be interested in the fact that the city of Menlo Park is looking for a Community Engagement Manager to develop, support and implement the Citys community engagement efforts with the goal to create meaningful opportunities for community members to have a voice in City decision-making.

I just put the announcement in our main blog. Here's the url: http://www.thataway.org/?p=1165

As posted on the NCDD mailing list earlier:

Who's up for an informal get together sometime towards the end of the year? My suggestion would be to do it after C2D2 (Nov 11-15), so anyone who's going to Vancouver could report back. Maybe a Saturday afternoon would work.

Thoughts, feedback, ideas welcome.

Thanks,
Tim
