Washington, D.C., Catalogue for Philanthropy Accepting
Applications

Deadline: February 22, 2008

The Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington is an annual
publication and Web site that features high-performing nonprofit
organizations in the District of Columbia and nearby Virginia
and Maryland counties. Designed to introduce potential donors to
new charitable opportunities, the catalog has helped raise more
than $4 million in four years for its featured nonprofits.

Sixty-five to seventy charities will be chosen for presentation
in the catalog, which is mailed in November to potential major
donors.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must be 501(c)(3) organiza-
tions with operating budgets of $3 million or less and be located
in Greater Washington (District of Columbia; Montgomery County,
Prince George's County, Frederick County, Maryland; and Arlington
County, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County,
City of Alexandria, City of Fairfax, City of Falls Church,
Virginia).

I'm in the process of organizing eDemocracyCamp -- a barcamp on e-democracy:

So far, it's still little more than an idea; I only started talking to people a few weeks ago. I guess we'll know in a couple of weeks or so if it will actually happen or not (judging from the 40+ sign-ups on Facebook there seems to be at least some interest, though).

I was wondering if any of you would like to help me:

* Connect with locals in the greater Washington DC area who might be interested in this type of stuff
* Invite organizations in this field (political, non-profit, government, education/research etc.)
* Find a team of co-organizers
* Get the word out
* Etc.

Join Steven Clift for an afternoon exploring real world democracy and the Internet.

The United States excels at online campaigning and advocacy - or put another way raising money and making noise online. Does this really matter when come election day those in power turn off the tools of interactivity? Can citizens really have a voice online and meet public challenges if we haven't developed an online listening infrastructure at all levels of governance and community? With the "e-campaign" of 2008 raising citizen expectations for the use of the Internet in democracy, Steven Clift will share his top ten "to do list" with examples from around the world that will help us meet those expectations in governance not just elections.
