Brian Hoop is Program Manager for the Neighborhood Resource Center (NRC) with the Office of Neighborhood Involvement. The NRC coordinates with its partner District Coalitions and other stakeholder organizations to provide leadership and organizational development support to 95 neighborhood associations, Diversity and Civic Leadership, Disability, Effective Engagement Solutions, and Public Involvement Standards Programs. He has been with ONI since 2000. Prior to that Brian was Association Director of Oregon Action, formerly Oregon Fair Share, a statewide economic justice organization. He has been a community organizer for 20+ years working on campaigns for environmental and nuclear disarmament, racial equality, statewide electoral campaigns, higher education lobbying, union organizing, HIV prevention, and gay, lesbian and bi civil rights.
The mission of the Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI) is to promote a culture of civic engagement by connecting and supporting all Portlanders working together and with government to build inclusive, safe and livable neighborhoods and communities. ONI was established in 1974, and the office serves as a vital communication link between residents, neighborhoods, and City of Portland bureaus. ONI works in partnership with many organizations including Neighborhood Associations, District Coalitions, Business District Associations other City agencies, and a wide range of community organizations and neighborhood activists to involve and inform the public in the civic life of the City. In addition, ONI provides a wide range of neighborhood livability direct services.
