My Personal Info
Full Name: Greg Keidan
NCDD Member Since: Feb. 8, 2009
Contact For: Institute for Local Government
About Me: Greg’s introduction to the world of dialogue and deliberation was when he worked with AmericaSpeaks in 2006, facilitating over 100 community conversations throughout Northeast Ohio for the Voices & Choices public engagement initiative. Greg did his doctoral work in neurobiology at the University of New Mexico and worked previously as a teacher, researcher, band manager, and concert promoter. He has since served in various facilitation, research, outreach, and training capacities on AmericaSpeaks initiatives including CaliforniaSpeaks, Listening to America’s Families, a national AFSCME member dialogue, and The Pittsburgh Non-profit Summit.

Inspired by his exposure to authentic and inclusive deliberative democracy through his experiences with AmericaSpeaks, Greg went back to school to study public engagement methods through the Fielding University DDPE graduate certificate program.

Currently, Greg is a full time public engagement consultant and serves as the program coordinator for the Collaborative Governance Initiative at the Institute for Local Government. He researches and writes about inclusive and effective public engagement strategies being employed at the local government level, contributing regular articles to journals including the National Civic Review, Western City Magazine and California Counties Magazine. His recent Institute publications include A Local Official’s Guide to Immigrant Civic Engagement and Emergency Preparedness in the Neighborhood: Engaging Residents as Partners in Disaster Planning and Response. He is currently working on publications related to participatory budgeting, developing effective youth commissions, public engagement in climate change efforts, “embedding” deliberative democracy into government agencies, and public participation in regional transportation and housing planning efforts under California State Bill 375.
