Janette Hartz-Karp’s role as Professor at Curtin University Sustainability Policy (CUSP) Institute involves research and teaching in deliberative democracy, as well as designing and implementing innovative deliberative engagement initiatives. For over four years, Janette worked with the WA Minister and Department for Planning and Infrastructure as a consultant, pioneering deliberative democracy - designing and implementing a wide range of initiatives that have resulted in significant changes to policy, planning and infrastructure in WA. This collaboration still continues today. Prof Hartz-Karp is co-leading the first Citizens’ Parliament in Australia in 2008-09, and is also co-leading an international research team exploring global deliberation on climate change, commencing in September 2008 in Alberta Canada, focusing on the tar sands. Janette has presented papers and workshops nationally and internationally, and is on the editorial board of IJP2.
I am co-facilitating a pre-conference workshop the day before the 2008 NCDD conference begins in Austin. The workshop is entitled "Choosing Deliberation and Dialogue Techniques that Work."
