Historic Sites of Conscience Gathering to be Held in March

Activating the Past: An International Symposium on Historic Sites of Conscience will take place March 19, 2004, at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The symposium will bring together the leading forces in an international movement to change the role of historic sites in civic life. Through drawing connections between histories and contemporary legacies, fostering public dialogue on difficult issues, and inspiring visitors to participate in making change, the session will explore the latest practices of self-described ?“sites of conscience,?” and their implications for the place of memory and museums in the development of democracies. www.umich.edu/~ummsp/event_hsc_program.htm
