The coming months will be a time of heightened public debate in the United States concerning the U.S role in the world. The Choices Program is working with The People Speak to bring this topic to high school students this fall.
In mid-August, 4600 teachers across the country received a packet of resources from the The People Speak designed to engage high school students in this topic in the classroom and beyond the classroom in their extracurricular or community activities. Free resources included:
- The U.S. Role in a Changing World (reproducible text and teacher guide)
- The People Speak Youth Circles Guide (designed to help students build on their experience in the classroom to organize and lead discussions in other venues)
- Youth Circles poster
Ask for your free packet: If you did not receive this free packet and would like to engage your students in this topic this fall, you are invited to contact the UN Foundation at 202-778-3534 or via email at .
Engage your students: All students participating in this initiative - either in the classroom or beyond - are encouraged to complete the online ballot available on the Choices Program web site at www.choices.edu/usroleballot. A full report will be sent to the White House, Members of Congress, and the press following the 2004 elections.
Let The People Speak know: If you are going to participate in The People Speak - either in class or by helping your students to lead discussions on the U.S. role in the world in other extracurricular venues - we encourage you to let The People Speak know. You can go online to www.thepeoplespeak.org/youthcircles.
