C2D2 Announces Program Highlights for Inaugural Conference
The program for the Canadian Conference on Dialogue and Deliberation (C2D2) to be held in Ottawa, October 27 ?– 30, 2005, includes pre-conference training opportunities, four interactive plenaries and a diverse range of break-out sessions, alongside innovative opportunities for conference participants to connect and network with one another. Each plenary is designed as a community session that will use tested, large scale dialogue and deliberation practices. The conference kicks off with "Dialogue and Deli", a plenary that will enable participants to learn and use the World Café technique. Plenaries on the following days employ other approaches. By the end of C2D2, newcomers and knowledgeable practitioners alike will have experienced a range of techniques, approaches and processes ?– some tried and true, others that are new and emerging in the field. Addressing themes such as: "The Hope and Promise of Dialogue and Deliberation", "Insights from the Front lines", and " Sustaining and Institutionalizing Dialogue and Deliberation in Public Spaces and Political Institutions", C2D2 will bring experienced and exciting speakers and presenters to lead participants through such processes and methodologies as " Circle of Inquiry", "Open Space Technology" and "Playback Theatre". There will even be an opportunity to use dance to build community.
During the conference there will be 6 time periods for break-out sessions with up to 7 choices of smaller group sessions in each period. To date, more than 50 session proposals have been received. Thursday, October 27, is dedicated to pre-conference training and will offer high quality, intensive skills building sessions for both in-person and on-line dialogue and deliberation. The pre-conference training program will be posted at the end of August.
The registration fee is $475 + GST until September 15, after which it is $575 + GST. C2D2 has a broad base of support, which includes: Canadian Policy Research Networks, Public Policy Forum, Canadian Institute for Public Engagement, CGI, Ascentum, the National Coalition for Dialogue and Deliberation, One World Inc., International Development Research Centre, the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation, the Atkinson Charitable Foundation, Nuclear Waste Management Office, International Association for Public Participation, National Capital Commission, Via Rail and several departments of the federal government.
