My Personal Info
Full Name: Susan Partnow
NCDD Member Since: Nov. 2, 2004
About Me: For well over 20 years, Susan Partnow, MA, has worked to create grassroots networks that work collaboratively, inclusively and with a commitment to nonviolence, justice and sustainability, from the founding of Families for Peace to the co-creation of Conversation Cafes and Let's Talk America and now, Global Citizen Journey. She is a organizational development and training consultant as well as a certified mediator. She especially loves working with clients to transform conflict to foster creative change and helping large groups of diverse people enter into meaningful conversation – using Open Space, World Cafes or Appreciative Inquiry. She’s served on the steering committee of NCDD, has been a teacher and speech pathologist, and received her M.A. in Communication Disorders from Northwestern University, BA from University of California at Berkeley. Susan has been with The Compassionate Listening since its inception, having served on the Board and helped create the certification program. She is passionately committed to social transformation, peacemaking and community building with a deep belief that we can and must 'listen our way to wholeness' and find our essential humanity through connection, wise co-creation, and dialogue.

My Work
Organization Name: Conversation Cafes
Title / Position: Co-Founder
Description: A Conversation Cafe is a 90-minute hosted conversation which is held in a public setting like a coffee shop or bookstore, where anyone is welcome to join. A simple format helps people feel at ease and gives everyone who wants to a chance to speak. Conversation Cafes do not focus on moving to action. They are not meant to replace action; they come before action. They are a place for people to gather their thoughts, find their natural allies, discover their blind spots, open their heart to the heart of 'the other.' As they say, all movements begin with a conversation.
